Adobe, a prominent tech giant, has recently unveiled its latest innovation in image-generation technology, marking a significant leap in its pursuit to outshine emerging startups challenging its core business.
The emergence of image-generating technology from companies like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion posed a significant threat to Adobe’s traditional user base, consisting of creative professionals who rely on its iconic tools, such as Photoshop.
In response to this challenge, the California-based company has ardently embarked on developing its proprietary version of this technology, seamlessly integrating it into its array of software applications.
Promising its clientele that generated images will be safeguarded from potential legal entanglements, Adobe reports that users have already harnessed these tools to create an astonishing three billion images, with a billion of them generated within the past month alone.
The newly introduced suite of tools includes a standout feature known as “Generative Match.” Building upon Adobe’s earlier text-based image generation tool, this innovation now allows users to feed as few as 10 to 20 images as a reference for generating an extensive range of images.
Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer for Digital Media, has stated that the primary goal is to empower major brands by enabling them to upload a modest selection of product or character images, which can then serve as the basis for the automatic generation of hundreds or even thousands of images catering to diverse needs such as website content, social media campaigns, and print advertisements.
Greenfield adds, “Until very recently, obtaining this magnitude of imagery was an arduous manual process, involving not only capturing the images but also post-processing them. While some aspects of photography are destined to transition to virtual photography, where images are generated entirely from scratch, a substantial portion will involve a fusion of traditional photography or creative work with the adaptability offered by generative technology.”
In addition to this remarkable development, Adobe has also launched tools capable of generating vector graphics, which can be easily scaled, a feature highly relevant for logos and product labels. Furthermore, Adobe now provides tools for crafting templates for brochures and other essential collateral.
The company has affirmed that pricing will remain consistent with the previously disclosed adjustments made in September, demonstrating Adobe’s unwavering commitment to its customer base and the creative industry as a whole.
This move showcases Adobe’s determination to maintain its position as a leader in the realm of digital innovation, further solidifying its foothold in a rapidly evolving tech landscape.
