Following successful implementations in Rajgir and Gaya, the Ganga Water Lift Scheme (GWLS), a significant component of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s “Jal Jivan Haryali Abhiyaan,” is ready to bring the blessings of the Ganges to Nawada. Residents in urban areas of Nawada district are poised to receive river Ganga water in their households starting December 15 this year.
The Ganga water treatment plant, strategically established at Paura village in Nawada, has undergone development, with final preparations underway to connect the plant to the sump house and subsequently to homes in urban areas.
Ratan Tilak, an official at the Nawada water treatment plant, stated, “Preparations for the Ganga water supply in Nawada are almost in the last phase. If all goes well, the project will be launched on December 15.”
This project is a crucial component of Nitish Kumar’s vision to provide clean and safe drinking water to areas facing water scarcity, such as Rajgir (Nalanda), Gaya, and Nawada. The ambitious initiative involves the installation of pipelines from Hathidah at Mokama in Patna district to ensure a sustainable supply of Ganga water.
Approved by the state cabinet in December 2019, the project boasts a total pipeline length of 190.90 kilometers, covering the three towns. The successful launch of the first phase, covering Rajgir and Gaya, occurred in 2022, while the second phase aimed at Nawada is set to conclude this month.
Aman Kumar, a resident of Nawada, expressed the community’s eagerness for Ganga water supply, citing the prolonged drinking water crisis in the region.
The Ganga Water Lift Scheme reflects the government’s commitment to addressing water-related challenges in the state, aiming to provide a reliable source of clean water to enhance the well-being of its residents.
