New Delhi, In a recent interview with Reuters, Tech Mahindra’s outgoing CEO, CP Gurnani, shed light on the job creation potential of Generative AI technology, expressing optimism about its ability to generate more jobs than it eliminates.
As discussions around AI technologies, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard, often involve concerns about their impact on job markets, Gurnani took a positive stance. He highlighted that the use cases of Generative AI are still evolving, indicating the potential for future job opportunities. Despite the widespread discussion about the potential loss of jobs due to technology, Gurnani firmly stated that skilled individuals would not be replaced. He anticipates that the market will expand, leading to the creation of new jobs.
The estimates on job losses attributed to Generative AI vary, and recent research from the European Central Bank and the International Labour Organization suggests that significant job loss has not occurred due to Gen AI-enabled automation.
In addition to addressing the technology’s impact, Gurnani urged young engineers to adapt to the changing landscape by investing more time in independently learning new skills. He signaled a potential shift in the operational model of Indian IT companies, mentioning a departure from traditional campus recruitments and training centers.
With his retirement scheduled for Dec. 19, Gurnani’s insights provide a glimpse into the evolving dynamics of the technology job market. Stay informed on the latest tech and startup stories by subscribing to MC Tech 3, the daily newsletter breaking down significant tech news.
