In a seismic political development, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has chosen to sever its ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The AIADMK, through a unanimous resolution, formally announced its disassociation, citing prolonged discomfort with the BJP’s state leadership. K P Munusamy, Deputy Coordinator of AIADMK, articulated the party’s decision, attributing it to what he referred to as “unnecessary remarks” made by the BJP about their leaders, including former Chief Minister EPS, and party members over the past year.

AIADMK has made it clear that it will not align itself with the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, the current opposition coalition. Instead, it intends to spearhead a distinct political front for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. This significant move culminates months of speculation and heightened tension between the AIADMK and the BJP. Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai’s repeated criticisms of AIADMK leaders, while controversial, seemingly did not deter the BJP from his confrontational stance.

The verbal clashes between AIADMK spokesperson D Jayakumar and Annamalai escalated further, with Jayakumar branding Annamalai as a “destructive pest” for his comments concerning Tamil Nadu’s inaugural Chief Minister, CN Annadurai. This ongoing friction between the erstwhile allies cast a shadow over their political partnership.

This latest development holds significant ramifications for the political landscape of Tamil Nadu and India at large, as the AIADMK charts an independent course for the upcoming national elections. Stay informed with Hindustan Times for more updates on this unfolding political narrative.
