AirAsia CEO, Tony Fernandes, has ignited controversy after sharing an image of himself receiving a topless massage during a high-level management meeting. The photograph, which was initially posted on LinkedIn but has since been removed, depicted Fernandes in a relaxed state during what he described as a “stressful week.” He praised the culture of Indonesia and AirAsia, highlighting that he could engage in a massage while conducting business.

However, the unconventional post triggered a storm of criticism on social media, with some branding it as “unprofessional,” “inappropriate,” and “absurd.” Critics argue that Fernandes, in his position, should set an example of professionalism and work ethics rather than engaging in ostentatious behavior.

While the 59-year-old entrepreneur, educated at Epsom College in the UK, has been known for his penchant for publicity stunts, the massage incident pushed the boundaries of acceptable office conduct. He has a colorful business history, having purchased AirAsia for less than $1 from the Malaysian government in 2001 and also owning Queens Park Rangers football club in London, along with founding the Caterham F1 Formula One team.

Once dubbed Malaysia’s answer to Richard Branson, Fernandes is renowned for his use of social media, having kept the public informed during the 2014 AirAsia flight QZ8501 crisis. Nevertheless, his net worth, as per Forbes, has seen a notable decline from around $650 million in 2014 to $335 million today.
