There was a time when Ashok Mahato’s gang was quite active in Bihar. In 2005, his gang was held responsible for the murder of Lok Sabha member Raju Singh. Last November, the infamous Ashok Mahato was released from Bhagalpur jail. He was implicated in various major incidents, including the Nawada jailbreak, the Maniur massacre in Sheikhpura, and the attempted assassination of a legislator by bombing. After 17 years, he was released from jail just last year. He had been arrested in 2006.

In a web series titled ‘Khak, The Bihar Chapter’ based on a book written by IPS officer Amit Lodha, the character inspired by Ashok Mahato was named villain Chandan Mahato. The Sheikhpura court acquitted Ashok Mahato, alias Sadhu, in the Tati bomb case. He was accused in the case of the attempted assassination of Sheikhpura legislator Randhir Kumar Soni.
Return from Jail:
When Ashok Mahato was released from Bhagalpur Camp Jail on November 10, 2023, he departed with a convoy of hundreds of vehicles. Outside the jail, his supporters welcomed him with enthusiasm.
