In a recent development, media reports suggest that YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, is poised to join the Congress party. Sharmila, born in 1974, currently serves as the founder and president of the YSR Telangana Party.
Earlier, there were rumors surrounding Sharmila’s potential move to Congress, and Andhra Pradesh Congress president, Gidugu Rudra Raju, expressed a welcoming stance, stating, “Anyone who wants to respect the ideology of the Congress party and who respects our president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, is most welcome.”
Sharmila, known for her decision not to contest the November 30 Assembly polls in Telangana, chose to support the Congress Party to avoid splitting votes. She emphasized the crucial juncture Telangana stands at and expressed concerns about the misrule of K Chandrashekar Rao.
Sharmila’s decision aligns with the larger interest of the state, as she stated, “YSR Telangana Party has decided to make the sacrifice of not contesting in the Telangana Assembly elections. I am okay to take this all-important decision to step back in the larger interest of the state and to ensure the bigger cause of people is addressed.”
While some reports indicate support for Sharmila’s move based on surveys and ground reports, others may have varying opinions on the potential impact of her joining Congress on the political landscape.
