Islamabad, Pakistan’s incarcerated former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, currently in Adiala jail, expressed disapproval of India’s Supreme Court decision on Article 370, stating it would “further complicate” the Kashmir issue. The apex court unanimously upheld the Centre’s 2019 decision to abrogate Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Imran Khan, through his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), declared the verdict as a violation of UNSC resolutions. He asserted that the ruling would complicate, not resolve, the longstanding Kashmir conflict. The PTI vowed continuous diplomatic, moral, and political support for Kashmiris.

Reflecting on his tenure, Khan highlighted the Kashmir issue as a primary dispute between Pakistan and India. He recalled his government’s strong reaction in 2019 when India attempted to alter Kashmir’s special status, resulting in downgraded diplomatic ties.

While expressing his desire for good relations with India, Khan indicated a shift after August 5, 2019, due to the unyielding stance on the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
