Tiruchirappalli, In an event in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirappalli, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed pride in India’s diverse culture and heritage, particularly highlighting Tamil Nadu’s rich traditions. He emphasized that the installation of the sacred Sengol in the new Parliament building aimed to draw inspiration from Tamil heritage’s model of good governance.
“India is proud of the vibrant culture and heritage of Tamil Nadu… I had many Tamil friends, and I got to learn a lot about Tamil culture from them. Wherever I go in the world, I cannot stop myself from talking about Tamil Nadu. The sacred Sengol was installed in the new Parliament building, an attempt to draw inspiration from the model of good governance that the Tamil heritage has given to the country,” stated PM Modi.
Addressing the public, he further highlighted Tamil Nadu’s role as a prominent supporter of the Make in India initiative, becoming a significant brand ambassador. PM Modi praised the state’s progress, indicating that when Tamil Nadu progresses, the entire country benefits.
During the event, PM Modi outlined the central government’s efforts to enhance coastal infrastructure and improve the lives of fishermen. He mentioned the creation of a separate fisheries ministry, allocation of a dedicated budget, and the extension of the Kisan Credit Card Scheme to fishermen.
PM Modi underscored the frequent visits of over 40 central government ministers to Tamil Nadu in the past year, emphasizing the strong focus on the state’s development.
Earlier, on May 28, 2023, PM Modi ceremoniously installed the sacred ‘Sengol’ in the Lok Sabha chamber of the new Parliament building, adopting it as a national symbol of the Amrit Kaal. The same ‘Sengol’ was accepted by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1947.
