The Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) on Monday expelled seven party leaders for six years, citing repeated indiscipline and conduct that allegedly violated key organisational norms during the 2025 assembly elections. The decision has deepened internal discontent, with a section of leaders calling the move an attempt to deflect responsibility for the party’s poor electoral performance.
The expulsions were ordered by Kapildeo Prasad Yadav, chairman of the BPCC disciplinary committee. In its statement, the committee said the leaders had criticised official decisions in print and social media, raised unverified allegations of ticket malpractice, and ignored instructions issued by authorised observers. It added that candidate selection followed the standard review process involving state, observer and AICC consultations.
Those expelled include former Seva Dal vice president Aditya Paswan, former BPCC vice president Shakeelur Rahman, former Kisan Congress chief Raj Kumar Sharma, former Youth Congress president Raj Kumar Rajan, former EBC department head Kundan Gupta, Banka district president Kanchana Kumari and Nalanda leader Ravi Golden.
The action follows a wider organisational strain after the Congress won only six of the 61 seats it contested, weakening the opposition bloc and aiding the NDA’s return to power. Some dissident leaders have questioned the standing of the disciplinary committee itself and accused senior leaders of avoiding accountability for weak candidate selection and poor coordination with allies.
Adding to the turbulence, Bihar Mahila Congress president Sharbat Jahan Fatima resigned after being denied a ticket. Her exit has renewed debate within the party over whether ticket distribution sidelined grassroots leaders.
BPCC president Rajesh Ram has directed all district committees to conduct detailed reviews of voting patterns, booth-level activity, organisational gaps and alliance issues. The findings will form part of a state-level assessment aimed at rebuilding the party’s structure ahead of upcoming campaigns.
The Congress will hold “Save the Constitution” programmes across districts on November 26, followed by preparations for the December 14 rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. The BPCC has instructed its units to increase outreach, strengthen local mobilisation, and ensure strong participation in both events.
