Patna – A 16-year-old boy who had allegedly eloped with the sister of a Bihar Police constable was found dead inside Nawada’s Kashichak police station on Thursday morning, triggering violent protests and accusations of custodial torture.

The deceased, a resident of Bauri village in Kashichak block, was detained on Wednesday evening after the girl’s brother filed a complaint. Local residents and the boy’s family allege that he was subjected to severe physical assault while in custody, with visible strangulation marks reportedly found on his neck. The boy’s sister, Aarti Kumari, has claimed that police threatened the teenager with dire consequences in an attempt to “teach him a lesson”.

SDPO Pakribarama Rakesh Kumar Bhaskar confirmed the death of a minor on police premises and stated that CCTV footage from inside the station is being examined. “A case related to a love affair/elopement had been registered against the minor and he was detained for questioning. The matter is under investigation,” the officer said.

Angry protesters blocked roads for more than seven hours, set fire to the tyres of an emergency response vehicle and vandalised a police jeep, demanding accountability from the authorities. Senior officials have yet to issue an official statement on the cause of death or the allegations of custodial violence.

Custodial deaths continue to cast a shadow over policing in Bihar, where public trust in law enforcement remains fragile in rural areas. An independent magisterial inquiry is expected to be ordered, though no formal announcement has been made at the time of writing.
