In a significant development ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Gautam Gambhir and Jayant Sinha have decided not to contest. Jayant Sinha, the Member of Parliament from Hazaribagh, conveyed his decision to BJP National President JP Nadda, expressing a desire to focus on global climate change efforts. Sinha, in a social media post, emphasized his commitment to continue working on economic and governance issues within the party.
Earlier, Delhi’s BJP MP Gautam Gambhir also announced his decision to abstain from electoral battles. In a tweet, he requested party chief JP Nadda to relieve him from political duties, citing a dedication to concentrate on upcoming cricket commitments. Gambhir expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP leadership for the opportunities and acknowledged their support for his service to the people of East Delhi.
Both Sinha and Gambhir’s decisions come amid ongoing discussions within the BJP regarding candidate selections. As the party may release its first list soon, speculation surrounds potential replacements for these leaders in their respective constituencies. While the BJP has yet to announce candidates for the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, names like Veerendra Sachdeva, Harsh Malhotra, and Vishnu Mittal are being considered for the East Delhi constituency.
