New Delhi, Budget carrier Akasa Air is reportedly in the final stages of securing an order for approximately 150 Boeing 737 MAX narrow-body planes, according to sources. Contract negotiations are underway, and an official announcement is anticipated during the Wings India event scheduled for January 18-21.

Akasa Air, India’s newest airline, holds a four percent market share since commencing operations in 2022. This order, aimed at domestic and international expansion, follows the carrier’s plans to announce a significant aircraft order in early 2024, as revealed by Chief Commercial Officer Praveen Iyer last December.

The order is expected to include future purchasing options, and the Boeing 737 MAX planes will enhance Akasa’s capabilities for flights to nearby foreign destinations, including Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Despite facing challenges last year, including pilot departures, the airline aims to strengthen its position in the aviation market with this strategic aircraft acquisition.
