In a strategic maneuver, Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Santosh Sarangi, disclosed the government’s ambitious intent to delve into the heartlands of districts to propel the nation’s export capacity to greater heights.
Addressing a consortium of reporters at the venerable Indian Chamber of Commerce, Sarangi revealed a pivotal revelation – a mere seventy districts across the nation hold dominion over an astonishing 80 percent of the entire country’s exports.
The declaration further elucidated that this concerted drive to stimulate exports at the district level has already been set into motion. Within the verdant landscapes of West Bengal, two distinct districts, Darjeeling and Howrah, have been meticulously identified as epicenters of export potential. Darjeeling, renowned for its peerless tea, and Howrah, a bastion of intricate jewelry craftsmanship and precision-engineered goods, have been chosen as flag-bearers of this transformative initiative. Concomitantly, bespoke export strategies tailored to these districts have been meticulously crafted and adopted.
“In these districts,” Sarangi elucidated, “lie reservoirs of untapped export potential, representing the unexplored frontier in our quest for enhanced export growth. Astonishingly, the preeminent mantle of national exports rests on the capable shoulders of a mere seventy districts.”
It’s imperative to note that the DGFT, a stalwart under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce, is responsible for not only delineating the nation’s trade policy but also executing its implementation, signifying its pivotal role in this overarching endeavor.
