Infosys co-founder, N R Narayana Murthy, has defended his controversial recommendation for Indian youth to work a 70-hour week, asserting that he wouldn’t have given such advice without having practiced it himself. In an interview, Murthy stated that he had received positive responses from various quarters, including Western friends, NRIs, and individuals in India. He compared the demanding work schedule to the hard work put in by less privileged individuals in the country.

Murthy emphasized the need for those who have received subsidized education to contribute by working diligently. Last month, he disclosed his own routine of arriving at the office at 6:20 am and leaving at 8:30 pm, working six days a week. The co-founder shared that he had worked up to 85-90 hours a week when there was a six-day work week until 1994.
