In yet another operation in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids at multiple locations on Friday, uncovering a significant quantity of foreign-made firearms and explosives. According to sources, the raid is linked to an attack on a team from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) by supporters of Shahjahan Sheikh, a leader associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC). This incident occurred on January 5th when the ED team was allegedly assaulted while conducting a raid at Sheikh’s premises in connection with an alleged ration scam.

Information obtained during the investigation indicated the presence of a large cache of weapons hidden in Sandeshkhali. Acting on this intelligence, the CBI team initiated the search operation on Friday morning, resulting in the seizure of foreign-made pistols along with other firearms and explosives. The raids come in response to three primary cases registered by central agencies based on the events of January 5th.

Earlier in February, Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested by the West Bengal Police in connection with the aforementioned incident. These cases are related to allegations of assault on ED officials by a mob, accusations against suspended TMC leader Sheikh’s security personnel, and subsequent complaints filed by ED officials. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities closely monitoring developments in the case.

Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, has previously commented on the situation, emphasizing the need for accountability while condemning any form of violence. The raids conducted by the CBI underscore the agency’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those responsible for criminal activities are brought to justice.
