In response to the prevailing cold wave conditions in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, the district administration has declared a winter vacation for students of Classes 1 to 8. The closure, effective until January 6, comes as temperatures drop, accompanied by dense fog, posing potential risks to students.
The decision was communicated through an order issued by the District Education Officer, Ram Pravesh, acting under the directives of the district magistrate. The order emphasizes the extreme cold weather conditions and aims to ensure the safety and well-being of the students.
As per the order, if classes for students of Class 9 to 12 are conducted, their timings should be limited to 10:00 am to 03:00 pm. The District Education Officer stressed strict compliance with the order, indicating that any school failing to adhere to the directive would face stringent action as per rules.
This move follows a similar decision by the Varanasi district administration, which also closed schools for students of Class 1 to Class 8 until January 6 due to cold wave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts, including an orange alert predicting cold day conditions, in parts of Uttar Pradesh until January 5.
IMD Director General Dr. Mrityunjay Mohapatra highlighted the expectation of falling night temperatures during January 5-11, leading to cold wave conditions in certain parts of central India. The day temperatures are anticipated to be below normal, resulting in cold day conditions, particularly in Madhya Pradesh, northern parts of Maharashtra, and southern parts of Uttar Pradesh.
