In the midst of uncertainty surrounding its alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, the Congress has appointed Parliament Coordinators for all 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The announcement comes a day before the National Alliance Committee, comprising five members, is set to engage in discussions with AAP leaders in the national capital regarding seat-sharing in Delhi and Punjab.
KC Venugopal, General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, released a list of coordinators designated for each parliamentary seat in Punjab. Notably, the state leaders of both Congress and AAP have publicly declared intentions to independently contest all 13 parliamentary seats, despite being partners in the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA).
The coordinators named include Inderbir Singh Bolaria for Gurdaspur, Sukhpal Singh Bhullar for Amritsar, Pargat Singh for Khadoor Sahib, Sukhbinder Sarkaria for Jalandhar, Ashwani Sharma for Hoshiarpur, Pawan Adia for Anandpur Sahib, Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal for Ludhiana, Harinder Pal Singh Harry Mann for Fatehgarh Sahib, Krishan Kumar Aggarwal for Faridkot, Sukhwinder Singh Danny for Ferozepur, Hardyal Singh Kamboj for Bathinda, Randeep Singh Nabha for Sangrur, and Gurkirat Singh for Patiala.
The Congress high command’s decision to appoint coordinators precedes the crucial talks with AAP leaders, and while state leaders have affirmed their stance of independent contesting, they express readiness to abide by the central leadership’s decision.
