Reflecting on the expectations from their arch-rivals, Kohli acknowledged, “It’s an exciting challenge every time you play Pakistan because they have a lot of talent in their team.” He took a moment to applaud Pakistan’s formidable bowling lineup, stating, “They are a quality team overall, but I feel bowling is their strength. They have got some really impactful bowlers that can change the course of the game anytime based on their skill set.”
Kohli delved into his affinity for the one-day international (ODI) format, revealing how it has consistently brought out his best. “I like to embrace that challenge and play according to my situation to help my team win, and I’ve always tried to do that,” he asserted. “For me, ODI cricket is probably the one format which tests your game completely — your technique, your composure, patience, playing the situation and playing differently in different phases of the game. I think it tests you as a batsman completely.”
The cricket maestro offered insight into his unwavering commitment to excellence, stating, “I have always worked on how I can improve myself — every day, in every practice session, every year, every season.” He elaborated, “I don’t think you can perform consistently without that mindset because if your performance is the only goal, then after a certain period, you can also stop working hard after being satisfied.”
Defying the constraints of conventional definitions, Kohli remarked, “I do not know the definition of excellence,” emphasizing that it possesses “no limit” and no predefined endpoint. “I think I try to work towards betterment every day. Performance, of course, becomes a by-product because your mindset is ‘how I can make my team win here,'” he added
Kohli underlined that his overarching mindset centers on discerning how his stellar performance can “make me a better player” and “put the team in a better position.”
In another snippet from the same interview, Kohli highlighted the significance of an aggressive mindset in white-ball cricket while emphasizing the critical importance of composure, particularly in lengthy one-day matches. “You can’t play one-dimensional cricket in ODIs, especially in significant tournaments, because the pressure is that much more, so composure is what wins you games,” he stressed.
The shared video clip showcased the rigorous training regimen undertaken by the Men in Blue during a 6-day training camp held in Bengaluru, a vital preparation period leading up to the Asia Cup. It provided insights into the team’s strategic approaches in both bowling and batting, underscoring their dedication to achieving success.
