In a surprising twist of events, it has come to light through an Indian media report on Tuesday, October 3, that there were no plans for an opening ceremony for the highly anticipated Cricket World Cup 2023.
Accordin to an informed source confirmed that an opening ceremony was never in the works for this edition of the World Cup. The source was quoted as saying, “In the case of the Indian Premier League, a brief opening ceremony is feasible as the matches commence in the evening. However, in this tournament, the matches start in the afternoon.”
The report also emphasized that both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had already organized a “Captains Day” event at the illustrious Narendra Modi Stadium on the preceding Wednesday.
On a contrasting note, a report indicated that the “Captains Day” event occurred on October 4, during which all team captains engaged in insightful discussions with former Indian and England cricket luminaries, namely Ravi Shastri and Eoin Morgan.
Regarding India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, the report highlighted an inquiry about the trend of host nations winning the last three World Cups. Sharma played down the significance, stating, “I’m not dwelling on that aspect too much, but it’s true that in the past three editions, the host nations have clinched the World Cup. We will pour our hearts into this World Cup and savor every moment of the tournament.” He added, “The cricket-loving populace will embrace this event wholeheartedly. The stadiums will be brimming with fervent fans. Cricket holds a special place in the hearts of Indians, and this World Cup promises to be an extraordinary spectacle.”
The inaugural match of this highly anticipated tournament is scheduled for today, featuring a clash between England and New Zealand. Pakistan, on the other hand, is poised to embark on their World Cup journey with their first match tomorrow, facing off against the Netherlands.
