Udupi: Yashpal Suvarna, MLA from Udupi, has urged Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to declare January 22 as a public holiday in commemoration of the historic consecration of the Ayodhya temple.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Suvarna emphasized the significance of the temple dedication as an immensely sacred day for all Indians, realizing a 500-year-old dream. He proposed that declaring a public holiday would allow people to celebrate this emotional and historical moment from the comfort of their homes.

Suvarna cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the nation to observe this sacred day in their homes, akin to the celebration of Diwali. He also mentioned a message from Pejawar Math pontiff, Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji, urging the people of Udupi to illuminate their homes, shops, and buildings with decorative lamps to celebrate the ‘Pranaprathishte’ (installation of a deity in a temple) of Lord Ram.

As part of the Ram mandir’s inauguration, Suvarna organized a special “Halu Payasa seve” for devotees at the Udupi Shri Krishna Math on January 22. Additionally, various groups will perform a “Bhajana Kunita” at the math.
