The Delhi High Court issued a scathing rebuke to the Arvind Kejriwal-led government, stating that it has prioritised personal interests over national welfare. During the hearing of a public interest litigation, the court criticized the government for failing to provide textbooks to over two lakh students, highlighting its disregard for the education sector.
The court expressed concern over the future of children, emphasizing that the government’s focus seems to be solely on personal agendas rather than addressing crucial issues affecting the public. Despite facing criticism and calls for resignation after recent controversies, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has demonstrated a preference for retaining power over prioritizing public welfare.
During the proceedings, the court also raised questions about the absence of a standing committee for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and criticized the government for its lack of authority and accountability. The matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court.
In response to the court’s observations, the government’s counsel cited logistical challenges and the absence of necessary approvals due to the Chief Minister’s detention. However, the court firmly stated that the government cannot use such excuses to evade responsibility and must prioritize the welfare of its citizens.
The case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the Delhi government and highlights the need for greater accountability and transparency in governance.
