NEW DELHI: Gaurav Bhatia, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has expressed gratitude to Shah Rukh Khan for exposing the alleged corruption and policy paralysis during the Congress rule from 2004 to 2014, as depicted in the movie ‘Jawan,’ directed by Atlee. In a Twitter post, Bhatia praised the film for serving as a reminder of the “tragic political past during the UPA government.” Bhatia specifically pointed to a dialogue from the movie, stating, “Hum jawaan hain, apni jaan hazaar baar daon par laga sakte hain, lekin sirf desh ke liye; tumhare jaise desh bechne walo ke liye hargiz nahi,” which he found fitting for the Gandhi Parivar.
The Twitter post came amid a political debate over the film ‘Jawan.’ While some Congress leaders have praised the movie and called for it to be screened by the government, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has claimed that the film’s dialogues align with Arvind Kejriwal’s messaging.
Bhatia’s analysis also included statistics such as 1.6 lakh farmer suicides during the Congress era, contrasting with the BJP’s implementation of Minimum Support Prices (MSP) and financial support to 11 crore farmers. He highlighted the BJP’s provisions of 2.3 lakh bulletproof jackets and disbursal of ₹1.2 lakh crore through the One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme, while criticizing the Congress for prioritizing VVIP helicopters over bulletproof jackets for soldiers. Additionally, Bhatia recalled the Congress’s alleged refusal to act on Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major’s request for surgical strikes following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, in contrast to the BJP’s response to the Pulwama attack with Balakot air strikes.
Bhatia concluded his post by thanking Shah Rukh Khan and commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in addressing these issues.
The film ‘Jawan’ has prompted various political reactions, with the AAP drawing parallels between the film’s dialogues and Kejriwal’s messaging, Congress leaders questioning whether the government would screen the film in the new Parliament building, and the BJP referencing Shah Rukh Khan’s tweet congratulating PM Modi on the G-20 Summit.
