In a noteworthy legal development unfolding in Delhi, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh, finds himself in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED arrested Singh in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. Subsequently, the Rouse Avenue court has extended his custody for a duration of five days, spanning until October 10.

The prosecution complaint filed by the ED implicates Singh through a statement made by businessman Dinesh Arora, a co-accused in the case. Allegations of financial misconduct and impropriety feature prominently in this ongoing investigation.

Furthermore, it’s essential to highlight that Singh’s arrest has sparked significant protests and demonstrations by AAP leaders and supporters on the streets of Delhi. They vehemently oppose what they perceive as a politically motivated arrest.

In a separate but related legal matter, NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and the head of the human resources department, Amit Chakravarty, both arrested in a Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case, have requested a copy of the FIR. The Delhi Police have opposed this request, and the court is deliberating whether to grant access to the FIR.

This situation underscores the complex and dynamic legal landscape in Delhi, and it is anticipated that further developments will arise in the days to come.
