The Election Commission has issued directions to immediately halt the sharing of ‘Developed India’ messages on WhatsApp. This directive was issued by the Commission on Thursday. It is noteworthy that over the past few days, people have been receiving messages on WhatsApp talking about ‘Developed India Contacts’. These messages were perceived as promoting the Modi government’s agenda, prompting the Election Commission to swiftly intervene and stop them. The Election Commission has instructed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to promptly take action to block such messages so that people do not receive them on WhatsApp.

What the Election Commission Said:

The Election Commission stated that it has come to its notice that despite the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in the country, people are still receiving messages on WhatsApp. In response to the Commission’s directive, MeitY has also responded, stating that the task of sending such messages had been done earlier. It is possible that there has been a delay in some people receiving the messages, and they are only now receiving them.

Election Date Announced

It should be noted that the Election Commission announced the dates for the Lok Sabha elections on March 16. The first phase of polling will take place on April 19, while people will exercise their voting rights under the seventh and final phase on June 1. The counting of votes will take place on June 4. With the announcement by the Election Commission, the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced in the country.”
