New Delhi,  As temperatures in Delhi dip, the air quality index (AQI) remains entrenched in the “very poor” category. Meteorologists predict that fog may envelop the city today, contributing to challenging visibility conditions.

On Sunday, a marginal dip in the AQI was observed, recording 314 compared to the previous day’s 353. Some parts of the city experienced a drizzle on Sunday evening, providing temporary relief. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature on Sunday was 10 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal, with a maximum temperature of 26.2 degrees Celsius.

Kuldeep Srivastava, head of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, IMD, attributed the drizzle to the influence of a western disturbance and cyclone circulation over Haryana, bringing moisture to certain areas.

The forecast indicates a gradual dip in nighttime temperatures as winter approaches, with a minimum temperature expected to reach 9 degrees Celsius by Tuesday and further dropping to 8 degrees Celsius by December 9.

While Saturday witnessed dense fog in the morning, Sunday experienced shallow fog. The Met department anticipates moderate to dense fog on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, given daytime winds at a speed of 6 kmph, the likelihood of dense fog formation on Tuesday is deemed low.

The AQI in Delhi is categorized as “very poor,” with neighboring areas registering “poor” air quality. The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi forecasts the persistence of “very poor” air quality until December 6, with the subsequent six days also expected to remain in the same category.

As Delhi grapples with challenging air quality and potential foggy conditions, residents are advised to stay informed about the evolving weather situation.
