In a significant development, Bushra Bibi, spouse of incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan, is facing heightened legal scrutiny. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is meticulously reviewing alleged financial transactions linked to Bibi, with emerging evidence potentially elevating her from a “witness” to an “accused” in a corruption case. Sources suggest that arrest may be imminent for Ms. Bibi, aged 49.
This development unfolds in the backdrop of Mr. Khan’s arrest earlier this year on charges related to disclosing a confidential diplomatic cable. The NAB is concurrently intensifying its investigations into Khan’s alleged involvement in corruption cases, including the Toshakhana and the UK’s National Crime Agency GBP 190 million, commonly known as the Al-Qadir Trust case.
Ms. Bibi, along with her close aide Farah Shahzadi, faces a summons on November 13 in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. Recent reports have surfaced, quoting government sources, alleging significant corruption by Ms. Shahzadi, linking her assets’ extraordinary growth to questionable practices during the PTI government.
The complex web of allegations, including land transfers and purported bribes, has sparked a series of press conferences by political entities such as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), adding a layer of complexity to Mr. Khan’s already challenging situation.
Mr. Khan, aged 71, served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from August 2018 to April 2022.
