In a resounding victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to reclaim power in Madhya Pradesh, securing a substantial lead over the Congress in the state’s assembly elections. With the BJP leading in 163 seats compared to Congress’ 64, various factors contributed to the BJP’s success, defying any anti-incumbency sentiments despite ruling the state for 18 of the past 20 years.

1. Modi-Centred Campaign:

The BJP’s dynamic campaign, encapsulated by the slogan “Modi ke Mann mein MP, MP ke Mann mein Modi,” played a pivotal role. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 14 rallies conveyed a special focus on Madhya Pradesh, denting the Congress’ welfare promises.

2. Welfare Programs:

A battle of welfare programs unfolded during the Madhya Pradesh election, with the BJP emerging victorious. The Ladli Behna and Kisan Samman Nidhi programs, providing financial benefits to beneficiaries, bolstered public trust. This strategic move resonated particularly well with women, poor voters, Dalits, and tribal communities.

3. The Double-Engine Promise:

The BJP’s assertion of a “double-engine” government, referring to its simultaneous governance at the state and central levels, resonated with voters. Leaders’ aggressive campaigns conveyed the message that this dual governance model would deliver better outcomes, building on the party’s track record.

4. Fractured Congress Campaign:

The Congress campaign faced challenges on the ground, relying heavily on social media and lacking visibility. The party struggled to convey its manifesto promises directly to the voters, while the BJP effectively connected with its cadre, fostering a ground-level connection well before the election dates were announced.

5. BJP Out-Strategises Congress:

Strategic planning proved to be a crucial element in the BJP’s victory. Initiating efforts in mid-2022, announcing candidates early, and close coordination between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and state leaders helped the party beat the anti-incumbency sentiment effectively.

The BJP’s triumph in Madhya Pradesh reflects a strategic and well-executed electoral approach, overcoming challenges posed by anti-incumbency and securing a decisive mandate.
