In a heartbreaking incident, a small jet crashed in the northern Amazonas state of Brazil, resulting in the tragic loss of fourteen lives. The ill-fated crash occurred in Barcelos province, situated approximately 250 miles (400 kilometers) away from the state capital, Manaus.
The Amazonas Governor, Wilson Lima, expressed profound sorrow over the calamity, extending condolences to the families and friends of the twelve passengers and two crew members who perished in the tragic accident.
The Manaus Aerotáxi airline, acknowledging the incident, assured that a thorough investigation was underway. However, the airline refrained from providing specific details regarding casualties or injuries, emphasizing the importance of respecting the privacy of those affected during this distressing period.
The Brazilian Air Force also issued a statement, disclosing that the Accident Investigation and Prevention Centre (CENIPA) had been summoned to initiate a comprehensive inquiry into the causes behind the aircraft’s crash. The aircraft in question was an Embraer Bandeirante bearing the registration PT-SOG.
Governor Lima, in an interview with O Globo newspaper, revealed that the victims were Brazilian tourists and disclosed the likely cause of the tragedy as an error in the approach to landing.
