Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently engaged in an in-depth interview with US based Newsweek magazine, delving into a variety of domestic and international issues ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Here are the key takeaways from the conversation:

India-China and India-Pakistan Relations:

PM Modi stressed the importance of India’s relationship with China, emphasizing the need to address border tensions through positive diplomatic and military engagement to ensure peace and stability. On the subject of Pakistan, while advocating for regional peace and prosperity, he refrained from commenting on internal matters of the neighboring nation.

Leadership and Listening:

Modi attributed effective leadership to the ability to listen, stating that it is a quality he possesses both innately and through deliberate cultivation. He emphasized the importance of being fully present and engaged in the moment, without distraction, and highlighted the significance of establishing a feedback mechanism connecting grassroots levels to top leadership.

Ram Mandir and Minority Rights:

Reflecting on the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, PM Modi described it as a historic moment of unity for the nation, representing centuries of perseverance. He dismissed allegations of discrimination against religious minorities, asserting that all communities, including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains, and Parsis, thrive harmoniously in India.

Democracy and Press Freedom:

Modi underscored the vital role of a free press in India’s democracy, countering claims of declining media freedom by citing the multitude of media outlets in the country. He criticized those disconnected from the Indian populace for propagating false narratives about media freedom.

Economic Growth and Poverty Alleviation:

The Prime Minister highlighted India’s economic growth and its focus on poverty eradication, noting that the underprivileged have been the biggest beneficiaries of the nation’s progress. He outlined plans to leverage India’s demographic dividend and emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering the youth.

Abrogation of Article 370:

Addressing criticism of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, PM Modi invited skeptics to witness the positive changes in the region firsthand, citing increased tourism and a decline in terror incidents as indicators of progress.

The interview provided insights into PM Modi’s perspectives on crucial issues shaping India’s present and future trajectory.
