In preparation for the upcoming G20 Summit, the prestigious Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in Delhi has strategically stationed its fully equipped medical teams at four prominent government hospitals in the national capital.
These elite medical teams, backed by specialized Corps of Engineers units, have been strategically positioned to effectively respond to any unforeseen medical emergencies that may arise during the G20 Summit. Furthermore, the Army RR Hospital stands ready on standby to support these efforts, as announced by the Indian Army.
According to reports, these quick reaction medical teams, comprising skilled doctors and paramedical staff, have been deployed at key medical facilities, including AIIMS, Safdarjung, Ram Manohar Lohia, and Army Research and Referral Hospital, specifically to address medical exigencies during the Summit.
These teams have been extensively trained to handle Chemical, Biological, Radiation, and Nuclear (CBRN) disasters, ensuring a robust response to various scenarios. Training commenced on September 4th at prestigious medical institutions such as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre, Safdarjung Hospital, and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, with 25 Army doctors stationed at AIIMS Trauma Centre, comprising both seasoned and junior medical practitioners.
Importantly, the heightened state of alert at these hospitals is designed to address G20-related medical crises without disrupting the regular patient care services provided to the public.
Elaborating on the preparedness, Dr. Ajay Shukla, Director and Medical Superintendent of RML Hospital, affirmed, “We have a deployment of Army doctors and Army personnel for first aid and decontamination; they will remain in the hospital till September 12.”
As part of the comprehensive arrangements for the G20 Summit, eighty teams of medical personnel, 130 ambulances, and advanced life support teams have been deployed to ensure the safety and health of all attendees, including VVIPs. An advanced life support (ALS) system staffed with senior resident doctors will be on hand to address any medical emergencies.
Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj noted, “The advanced life support (ALS) system will accompany all carades. It will have senior resident (doctors) to address any medical emergencies.”
Additional measures include 80 teams of doctors and nursing staff stationed at hotels to attend to medical issues and emergencies. A fleet of 70 advanced and well-equipped ambulances will be available throughout the event.
Furthermore, five government hospitals, including Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, GTB Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, and Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital, along with selected private hospitals, such as Primus Hospital-Chanakyapuri, Max Hospital-Saket, and Manipal Hospital-Dwarka, have been placed on high alert to ensure swift responses to any medical requirements.
A state-of-the-art medical emergency facility with ICU services has been established within the premises of the Bharat Mandapam, the designated Summit venue.
Both the Ram Mahohar Lohia Hospital and AIIMS have made adequate arrangements to accommodate potential medical contingencies arising from the Summit, with other government and private hospitals directed to prepare for similar scenarios.
To facilitate timely assistance, the Delhi Police has set up an Ambulance Assistance Control Room, operational from the intervening night of September 7th and 8th through September 11th, reachable at the numbers 6828400604 and 112.
With preparations of this magnitude in place, authorities aim to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during the G20 Summit, which is scheduled to take place from September 9th to 10th at the newly constructed international convention and exhibition centre, Bharat Mandapam, located at Pragati Maidan. The event is expected to host over 30 heads of state, top European Union officials, invited guest countries, and 14 leaders of international organizations.
