Chennai, In a significant development on the sidelines of the ongoing Global Investors Meet 2024 in Chennai, FMCG major Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) launched its cutting-edge manufacturing plant. Strategically situated in the Chengalpattu District near the state capital, this Rs 515-crore investment is aimed at improving delivery times, optimizing inventory management, and reducing overall costs.

GCPL, in collaboration with the State Government of Tamil Nadu, signed a substantial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in August 2023 for the establishment of this state-of-the-art facility. The plant will focus on accelerating the production of flagship brands, including Cinthol, Godrej Expert Rich Crème, Godrej Selfie Shampoo Hair Colour, and Goodknight.

Nisaba Godrej, Executive Chairperson of GCPL, expressed the company’s aspiration to develop this facility as a “lighthouse factory” with a commitment to sustainability, safety, and automation. The government has provided incentives for the company’s commitment to employing at least 50 percent women and 5 percent from the LGBTQI and people with disability communities.

The digitally connected shop floor will integrate manufacturing technologies with IT advancements, enhancing efficiency and resource optimization. The new plant is expected to significantly contribute to GCPL’s production capabilities and overall production capacity.

MK Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, welcomed Godrej’s commitment to the state, highlighting their substantial investments, job creation, and strategic vision in choosing Tamil Nadu for pioneering new innovations.
