PATNA: Union Minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh has called for a reevaluation of the existing prohibition law in Bihar following the tragic killing of a police officer allegedly by liquor smugglers in Begusarai district.

In a video statement, Begusarai MP Giriraj Singh accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of being responsible for the murder, attributing it to the CM’s “stubbornness.” Singh asserted that Nitish’s unwavering stance on prohibition had not only claimed lives but also led to numerous individuals, many of them innocent, languishing in jails across the state.

“Nitish is responsible for the killing of several people by liquor mafias…Agar koi kanoon hai to Nitish Kumar par kanoon ka shikanja kasna chahiye (If any law exists, then its noose must be tightened around Nitish),” Giriraj stated in a video posted on X.

The minister called for an all-party meeting to reconsider the existing prohibition laws, highlighting the alleged faulty liquor policy in the state that has resulted in thousands being incarcerated. This demand comes amidst similar calls from BJP allies, including Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and LJP (Ram Vilas), each expressing concerns about the impact of current liquor regulations.

The situation remains tense as political figures advocate for a comprehensive review of liquor laws to address the challenges posed by illicit alcohol activities.
