Patna, Bihar, is highly concerned about various weather-related risks, including heatwaves, monsoon, storms, lightning, floods, droughts, fog, mist, and cold waves, significantly impacting daily life. In response to prioritizing people’s safety, the state government has implemented a five-day weather forecast system, establishing automated weather centers at the district level. Seeking assistance not only from the state government but also from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bihar is utilizing advanced technology for weather prediction.

The success of Bihar’s weather model is not only being acknowledged but is also anticipated to be adopted nationwide. ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, impressed by Bihar’s model, is expected to visit the state to witness its accomplishments.

How Weather Forecasting Works

Weather analysts at Bihar’s weather centers analyze data obtained from both automated local weather centers across all districts and data received from ISRO’s satellites. Every 15 minutes, these local centers provide information on temperature, humidity, wind speed, and direction. The integration of this data with satellite observations enables a comprehensive analysis. The results of this analysis form the basis for a five-day weather forecast.

Sanjay Kumar Pansari, the special secretary of the weather department, mentioned that the Bihar Weather Science Center’s team comprises professionals trained in IT and national-level institutions, ensuring high-quality work.

Ministerial Statements

Bijendra Prasad Yadav, the Minister of Planning and Development, highlighted the successful establishment of automated weather centers in every district, making weather forecasts easily accessible across the state. Recently, even NASA scientists visited the Bihar Weather Center, emphasizing its significance. With the upcoming visit of the ISRO Chairman, this accomplishment is a matter of pride for the state.
