Toronto | In connection to the shooting at the residence of the temple president’s son in Surrey, British Columbia, on December 27, the Surrey detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has identified a vehicle of interest. The vehicle is believed to be a blue, 4-door hatchback, Mitsubishi Mirage GT or SE, model years 2017-2019.

The incident involved nearly a dozen shots fired at the residence of Satish Kumar’s son, president of the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey. The RCMP seeks public assistance, urging anyone with information about the vehicle to come forward.

Kumar plans to address the community’s concerns in a forum, discussing issues of extortion and drive-by shootings in the region. Extortion attempts, possibly linked to gangs with connections to India, have been on the rise in Metro Vancouver.

The temple has faced targeting from pro-Khalistan elements in the past, with posters against India’s diplomats and previous arrests related to these incidents. The recent shooting’s motive remains unclear, with no contact for extortion reported before or after the incident.
