DUBLIN: A major incident unfolded in central Dublin on Thursday, leading to five individuals, including three children, being hospitalized, as reported by Irish police. While the incident is suspected to involve a stabbing, authorities have ruled out a terrorist motive. Prime Minister Leo Varadkar confirmed the arrest of a suspect, and the police assured they were pursuing a specific line of inquiry.
The Garda Siochana, Ireland’s police force, stated, “Five casualties have been taken to various hospitals in the Dublin Region.” The victims include an adult male, an adult female, and three young children. A girl among the children sustained serious injuries, while the other two are being treated for less severe injuries. Both adults are receiving medical attention, with the female undergoing treatment for serious injuries and the male for less severe injuries.
The police emphasized that they are investigating all circumstances surrounding the incident, describing it as a “serious public order incident” occurring shortly after 1:30 pm. Authorities are in contact with the parents of the injured children. Leo Varadkar expressed shock over the incident, praising the swift response of emergency services and confirming the detention of a suspect.
Local lawmaker Aodhan O Riordai expressed concern over the “disturbing” reports of a stabbing incident, which is said to have taken place outside a primary school.
