In a groundbreaking development, Saveera Parkash, a Hindu woman residing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Buner district, has officially filed her nomination papers for a general seat in the upcoming Pakistan general elections set to take place on February 8, 2024. Saveera, a recent graduate from Abbottabad International Medical College (Class of 2022), expressed her optimism about contesting the elections as a representative of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Currently serving as the general secretary of the PPP women’s wing in Buner, Saveera Parkash aims to tackle crucial issues related to women’s rights, ensuring a safe environment, and addressing historical neglect. Her decision to enter politics is rooted in a deep commitment to serve the underprivileged, following in her father’s footsteps.

Saveera submitted her nomination papers for the general seat of PK-25 in Buner on December 23, 2023. During an interview with Dawn, she shed light on her aspirations to bring about positive change and emphasized her dedication to “serving humanity,” a commitment ingrained in her through personal experiences in government hospitals during her medical career.

Acknowledging the significance of Saveera Parkash’s candidacy, Imran Noshad Khan, a social media influencer from Buner, commended her for challenging traditional patriarchal stereotypes. Her decision to participate in the elections holds historical weight, especially considering the 55 years it took for Buner to merge with Pakistan.

As Saveera Parkash ventures into this political journey, she hopes for the endorsement of her candidature by the senior leadership of the PPP, aiming to contribute significantly to the upliftment of her community and the representation of women in Pakistani politics.
