A University of Pennsylvania student, Tara Tarawneh, who previously expressed support for the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, has been arrested for allegedly stealing an Israeli flag on campus. The incident occurred near the Ivy League campus during a demonstration organized by the Philly Palestine Coalition against the Gaza assault.
Tarawneh, charged with theft and receiving stolen property by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, was seen delivering a disturbing speech during the protest. In her speech, she referred to Hamas terrorists as “freedom fighters” and expressed joy over the October 7 attack. The arrest came after she reportedly stole an Israeli flag from the front of a Campus Apartments house.
This incident adds to the controversy surrounding Tarawneh, who had previously written a column condemning “settler colonialism” as a “violent machine.” In a published article, she promoted the Palestine Writes Literature Festival on the Philadelphia campus, emphasizing its importance for cultural preservation.
