This novel addition supplements the existing array of price tracking alerts and the price guarantee option already accessible on the platform. The technology behemoth promises to provide novel insights regarding the “most economical time to book.”
Google, in an official blog post, explained that for searches equipped with dependable trend data, users will now be apprised of the historical lows in pricing, enabling informed decision-making regarding preferred travel dates and destinations.
Demonstrating its functionality, the feature may reveal that the most cost-effective period to book analogous trips typically surfaces around two months prior to the departure date—a detail that can guide travelers towards making informed choices.
The unveiling of flight booking trends for 2023 further underscores Google’s commitment to leveraging historical price patterns recorded on Google Flights. The compilation offers prospective travelers a chance to harness valuable insights when making their booking decisions.
A novel feature, denoted as a “price guarantee badge,” is displayed alongside select flight results. This badge indicates Google’s high confidence that the displayed fare will remain stable until departure. If the fare subsequently drops after booking, Google has committed to refund the difference through its Google Pay platform—a welcome assurance for cost-conscious travelers.
This price guarantee feature currently forms a part of a pilot program tailored for specific Book on Google itineraries departing from the United States.
Crucial travel insights also emerge from Google’s analysis. For voyages commencing in mid-December, optimum deals are often encountered in early October. Interestingly, the statistical analysis reveals a significant shift from the insights recorded in 2022, demonstrating that the lowest average prices tend to surface approximately 71 days before departure. This differs markedly from the previous year’s observation, where the lowest prices were usually spotted just 22 days before setting off. The revised parameters now pinpoint a favorable pricing window ranging from 54 to 78 days before takeoff.
Moreover, Google’s analysis indicates that for journeys originating in the United States and bound for Europe, the best time to secure affordable airfares is at least 72 days before departure. Evidently, prices tend to rise as the departure date draws near, particularly within the final 10 weeks preceding the trip.
