Travis Head’s scintillating innings of 137 led Australia to an emphatic six-wicket triumph over India, securing their record-extending sixth World Cup title in Ahmedabad.

– Chasing a challenging target of 241, Australia initially struggled at 47-3 before Travis Head’s remarkable century guided them to victory with seven overs to spare.

– Head’s second century of the tournament, featuring 15 fours and four sixes, formed a crucial partnership of 192 runs with Marnus Labuschagne (58 not out), ending India’s dominant streak of 10 unbeaten matches in the event.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his appreciation for Team India despite their loss, acknowledging their talent, determination, and the pride they brought to the nation throughout the World Cup.

“Dear Team India, your talent and determination through the World Cup was noteworthy. You’ve played with great spirit and brought immense pride to the nation,” he said. “We stand with you today and always,” he added.

Head’s powerful century, coupled with Labuschagne’s resilience, proved instrumental in Australia’s victory, extinguishing India’s hopes of securing a global trophy.

– Mitchell Starc’s impactful left-arm pace secured three crucial wickets for Australia (3-55).

– Australia captain Pat Cummins, with figures of 2-34 in his allotted 10 overs, played a key role in restricting India to 240 all out.

**Head’s Remarkable Comeback:**

Travis Head’s outstanding performance marked a remarkable comeback, having faced a fractured hand in September. His century against New Zealand and a crucial 62 in the semi-final showcased his pivotal role in Australia’s World Cup journey.

Post-Match Comments:

Expressing his joy, man-of-the-match Travis Head said, “Just thrilled to be a part of it. It’s a lot better than seeing the World Cup on the couch at home (on his injury). I was a little bit nervous but Marnus played exceptionally well and soaked all the pressure.”

Marnus Labuschagne expressed his awe at the team’s achievement, stating, “What we’ve achieved today is unbelievable. It’s the best achievement I’ve ever been part of.

Despite the loss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged the team’s effort, saying, “The result hasn’t gone our way and we know that we were not good enough on the day, but I’m proud of the team.”
