In the midst of the ongoing political dispute surrounding Sharad Pawar’s criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for expressing support for Israel during the conflict with Hamas militants, the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, delivered a sharp retort on Wednesday. Sarma quipped to news agency ANI that it appears Sharad Pawar might consider sending his daughter, Supriya Sule, to Gaza to support the militant group.

This political furor erupted after Sharad Pawar criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for demonstrating solidarity with Israel, expressing his regret that the PM had neglected the real issue. Pawar asserted that former Indian prime ministers had consistently supported Palestine in the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal expressed his dismay at Pawar’s remarks, emphasizing the necessity of condemning terrorism worldwide. He highlighted that Pawar had held prominent positions in the government during critical security incidents.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also condemned Pawar’s comments, asserting that India had consistently opposed terrorism in all its forms.

Modi had expressed solidarity with Israel on October 7, following rocket strikes by Hamas militants. The conflict between Israel and Hamas militants, which began on October 7, has resulted in over 4,000 casualties, including approximately 1,400 Israelis and 2,750 Palestinians.
