Indore,Professor Chetan Singh Solanki, renowned as the ‘Solar Man of India,’ asserts that India will be among the most affected countries by climate change. As part of his ‘Energy Swaraj Yatra,’ Solanki arrived in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, to advocate for solar energy and address the looming threat of climate change.
Solanki, currently on leave without pay from IIT Bombay, initiated the ‘Energy Swaraj Yatra’ in November 2020, spanning until 2030. The yatra, conducted on a solar-powered bus, has covered over 47,000 kilometers, with Solanki addressing programs in more than 600 institutions.
Expressing concern about climate change, Solanki highlighted the occurrence of unseasonal rains and severe floods in India. He emphasized the urgent need to address carbon emissions, identifying solar energy as a potential solution.
Solanki, residing in the solar-powered bus, has transformed it into a mobile home, equipped with an office, kitchen, worship room, bed, training room, dining room, library, and a bath-cum-toilet. He expressed a commitment not to return home until the completion of the yatra.
Identified as the solar energy ambassador of the Madhya Pradesh government, Solanki stressed the importance of utilizing solar energy responsibly. He cautioned against indiscriminate installation of large solar power plants and advocated for local-level self-sufficiency in solar power generation.
Professor Solanki’s ‘Energy Swaraj Yatra’ aims to create awareness about the impact of climate change and promote sustainable solutions. The journey reflects a dedication to fostering solar energy awareness and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change in India.
