In a significant stride in the strategic partnership between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the inaugural edition of the joint military exercise “Desert Cyclone 2024” is set to commence on January 2. Running for two weeks until January 15, the exercise will unfold in the arid terrains of Rajasthan, focusing on enhancing interoperability and sharing best practices in Urban Operations.

“The Inaugural edition of Joint Military Exercise #DesertCyclone, between #India & #UAE, will be conducted from 02 Jan to 15 Jan 2024 in #Rajasthan. The exercise aims to enhance interoperability by learning & sharing best practices in Urban Operations,” announced the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) of the Indian Army through a social media post.

Joint military exercises with allied nations play a pivotal role in fostering operational engagements and honing the skills of armed forces across diverse areas of warfare. These collaborations facilitate the exchange of tactical and technological practices, techniques, and strategies, contributing to the ongoing enhancement and modernization of military operations.

Earlier this year, the Indian Navy showcased its commitment to bilateral cooperation during the ‘Zayed Talwar’ exercise with the UAE, where INS Visakhapatnam and INS Trikand participated. This exercise aimed at bolstering interoperability and synergy between the Indian and UAE navies.

The diplomatic ties between India and the UAE, established in 1972, have evolved steadily, with both nations fostering bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Bilateral defence interactions have seen consistent growth, marked by high-level exchanges and regular port calls by the navies of both countries.

As the Desert Cyclone exercise unfolds against the backdrop of the expansive Thar Desert, it symbolizes the collaborative commitment of India and the UAE to advancing military capabilities and strengthening their partnership.
