In a recent development, approximately 100 housing societies in Greater Noida have been served notices by the Greater Noida Authority for alleged improper disposal of bulk waste within their premises. A survey conducted by the health department of the authority revealed non-compliance with waste disposal guidelines among these establishments.
The authority, concerned about the negligent waste management practices, has sought responses from the errant housing societies and warned of potential action in case of unsatisfactory replies. NG Ravi Kumar, CEO of Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority, emphasized ongoing campaigns to ensure proper garbage disposal within the jurisdiction, stating, “Regular campaigns are being organized to ensure the upkeep and proper disposal of waste.”
The survey identified around 100 establishments, primarily residential societies, deviating from waste disposal guidelines. These establishments, identified as bulk waste generators in the city, have been instructed to adhere to proper waste disposal practices. Stringent action, including fines, is anticipated in cases of non-compliance. Notably, two housing societies have already faced a fine of ₹20,000 each for negligence in waste management.
In parallel, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken cognizance of air and water pollution in Gautam Budh Nagar resulting from the discharge of industrial effluents and municipal waste into drains. The NGT has directed the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control to initiate action against concerned departments and officials for the lack of necessary steps to address the environmental concerns.
