New Delhi, In the aftermath of the significant security breach in Parliament on Wednesday, five Congress MPs faced suspension from the Lok Sabha today for their reported “unruly conduct.” The suspended members, including Dean Kuriakose, Hibi Eden, Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and TN Prathapan, will remain suspended for the remainder of the Winter Session, concluding on December 22.

This action follows the suspension of Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien from the Rajya Sabha earlier in the day, adding to the growing list of disciplinary measures against opposition members.

O’Brien’s suspension was prompted by his demand for a discussion on the security lapse incident, where two individuals breached security, causing chaos in the Lok Sabha chamber. The incident, marked by the release of yellow smoke, intensified concerns over parliamentary security, leading to calls for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation from opposition members.

As opposition MPs continued their protest over the breach, the Lok Sabha was adjourned until 3 pm. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, who moved the motion to suspend the Congress MPs, stressed the need for a non-political approach to strengthening security protocols.

The Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, ordered a high-level inquiry into the security breach, with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) launching a probe following a request from the Lok Sabha Secretariat. The inquiry committee, led by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Anish Dayal Singh, aims to identify security lapses and recommend necessary actions.

In the wake of the incident, eight security personnel have been suspended by the Lok Sabha Secretariat for their roles in the security lapses.
