In Bihar, while youth voter numbers are high, seasoned parliamentarians dominate the electoral scene. Despite a significant youth voter base, the majority of voters in the state seem to prefer experienced candidates. Analyzing the last three Lok Sabha elections, the average age of MPs elected in 2019 surpassed those elected in the previous two general elections. The current average age of Bihar’s sitting MPs is 65.25 years, compared to 54.25 years in 2014.

Supaul MP Tops Seniority; Prince Raj Emerges as the Youngest

The Supaul MP, Dileshwar Kamat, who won in 2019, holds the distinction of being the oldest among the elected MPs. According to the data from the election affidavit, his age was 73 in 2019, and by 2024, he will turn 78. Conversely, Prince Raj, who won in a by-election in 2019 at the age of 30, stands as the youngest among the current MPs. In 2024, he will turn 34.

MPs Aged 30-40: A Trio of Youthful Representatives

Bihar has three MPs aged between 30 and 40. Besides Prince Raj, Kavita Singh, who won from Sevaan, and Sunil Kumar from Valmikinagar represent this age bracket. Sunil Kumar’s age in 2019 was 39, making him 42 in the upcoming elections.

MPs Aged 40-50: A Quartet of Midlife Representatives

The bracket of MPs aged between 40 and 50 includes Santosh Kumar from Purnia, Sushil Kumar Singh from Aurangabad, Mahabali Singh from Kishanganj, and Chandan Kumar from Nawada.

MPs Aged 50-60: An Array of Tenured Leaders

Representatives aged between 50 and 60 constitute a significant portion, featuring stalwarts like Lalan Singh from Munger, Giriraj Singh from Begusarai, and Ashwini Kumar Choubey from Buxar.

MPs Aged 60-70: A Dozen Experienced Leaders

With MPs like Ravi Shankar Prasad from Patna Sahib and Raj Kumar Singh from Arrah, this age group showcases twelve seasoned leaders.

MPs Aged 70 and Above: Veterans Holding Key Positions

Prominent leaders like Raj Kumar Singh, Giriraj Singh, and Ashwini Kumar Choubey continue to play crucial roles despite being 70 and above.
