New Delhi, In a testament to its efficiency, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport secured the third position globally for on-time performance (OTP) in 2023, according to rankings released by aviation analytics firm Cirium. A flight is considered on-time if it arrives or departs within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.
Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport closely followed, securing the second position in the ‘global airports’ category. The top spot was claimed by Minneapolis’ St Paul International Airport in the United States, boasting an OTP of 84.44%.
While Hyderabad achieved an OTP of 84.42%, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport was not far behind with an OTP of 84.08%. These rankings affirm the airports’ commitment to punctuality, a crucial metric for reliability in air travel.
Cirium measures OTP using ‘Gate Arrival,’ considering flights arriving or departing within 15 minutes of the scheduled time. The accolades come despite a 1% decrease in Hyderabad airport’s OTP compared to the previous year.
Apart from airport rankings, IndiGo, a prominent Indian airline, secured the eighth position in the low-cost carriers category for OTP, with 82.12% flights on time. However, no Indian carriers featured in the top ten list of ‘global airlines’ for OTP.
The recognition of Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports on the global stage reflects positively on India’s aviation infrastructure and its dedication to maintaining operational excellence.
