After inspecting the transport department, Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary issued several directives on Friday. Following this, High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles have become mandatory across Bihar.

A strict campaign will be initiated statewide against vehicles without HSRP number plates and those sporting designer, stylish plates. Offenders altering numbers to create phrases like ‘BOSS’ or ‘PAPA’ may face fines upon detection.

Upon a second offense, the vehicle may be seized, and a third violation could lead to registration cancellation. Installing HSRP after the first offense is also now compulsory, as directed by Transport Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary after a thorough review. The department has communicated instructions to all District Magistrates, SPs, and transport officials.

Violating Motor Vehicle Act with Number Plate Alterations

Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agrawal stated that altering registration numbers on two-wheelers and four-wheelers, such as changing ‘8055’ to ‘BOSS’ or ‘4141’ to ‘PAPA,’ is a violation of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Offenders may face a fine of Rs. 2500 under sections 177 and 179 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Agrawal urged citizens to report vehicles with illegal stylized number plates by sending photos via WhatsApp to the control room at 91539 71897, leading to subsequent action.

HSRP Mandatory for All Vehicles

The transport secretary emphasized that installing High-Security Registration Plates is mandatory for all vehicles. Illegible markings on number plates are prohibited, and plates must adhere to specified formats. Offenders will face consequences for violating these regulations.

Writing caste, religion, profession, name, symbols, photos, or any other content on vehicle number plates or bodies can distract other drivers and lead to accidents. The Motor Vehicles Act specifies standardized criteria for number plates.

Where to Get HSRP Installed

New vehicles come with HSRP from dealer points. Owners of older vehicles without HSRP can contact their respective dealers to get compliant plates.

In summary, Bihar has launched a stringent campaign against unauthorized number plates, making HSRP mandatory for all vehicles. Offenders may face fines, vehicle seizures, and even registration cancellations for repeated violations.”
