In a distressing incident, Abhas Kumar Shrivastava, a man from Bihar, shared his experience of being compelled to stand for the entire duration of his train journey despite holding a confirmed ticket for the Rourkela Intercity SF Express. The incident occurred during the train’s route from Bhubaneswar (BBS) to Rourkela (ROU).

Shrivastava, who had secured a confirmed seat four days prior to his travel, faced challenges even before reaching his designated seat due to the overcrowded train. Expressing his frustration on social media platform X, he stated, “Reserved a seat 4 days prior and got a confirmed ticket. It was only after somehow entering the train I realised I couldn’t even reach my seat number 64.”

The situation worsened when Shrivastava finally reached his seat after an hour, only to find a pregnant lady occupying it. Consequently, he had no choice but to stand near the train’s gate for two hours.

Accompanying his account was a photo depicting the overcrowded conditions within the train coach, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

Shrivastava clarified that he had booked a seat in the sleeper class and highlighted the confusion arising from the coach designations in intercity trains in Odisha.

The tweet recounting his plight has garnered over 1.6 lakh views within a day, prompting reactions from fellow X users who expressed concerns about the growing issue of overcrowded trains and the need for swift resolution.

As passenger dissatisfaction continues to rise, calls for improvements in train travel conditions have become more pronounced, with commuters urging authorities to address the challenges faced by reserved ticket holders.
