Patna, In a significant decision, the Bihar Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, announced that around 3.5 lakh contractual (Niyojit) teachers in government-run schools will now receive government employee status. The state Education department proposed this move, which was later approved in the cabinet meeting.
These teachers, considered ‘exclusive teachers,’ must undergo competency examinations to maintain their government employee status. The competency tests will be conducted by a yet-to-be-decided government agency, and those who fail will face decisions on their employment by the state government.
Notably, their salary structure will remain unchanged initially, with revisions following guidelines from the Bihar Public Service Commission after passing competency tests.
This decision addresses a longstanding demand from contractual teachers for government employee status.
In addition to this, the cabinet also approved Bihar’s new ‘Tourism policy,’ aiming to develop world-class tourism infrastructure, provide financial assistance for hospitality establishments, and enhance facilities along highways, including camping sites and adventure sports.
